What kind of ".txt files"? What's "all over the place"? What's in those
    files?

I'm using LT2002 (so you might have to dig a bit on your settings). But for
me I do the PLOT command. Then on the Plot shell, click on the PLOT DEVICE
tab and then click on the PLOT STAMP settings button. Then on the next popup,
    click on the ADVANCE button.

Here you should see the option (at the bottom) to prevent creating a LOG file.
    Disable it.

Oh and for LT2002, sometimes you cannot get to the final popup (ie: a button
is disabled) because there is a file that gets' installed with the Read Only
attribute enabled. If this happens to you you have to change the attribute
flag (and I "think" that the file is your INCHES.PSS file (or MM.PSS) located
    in your "support" folder.
