I ran into this and it has helped me so I thought I'd share it. If you want
to make the thumbnails in explorer viewable on a high resolution monitor
making part searching in windows a little easier do the following:
To control the thumbnail dimensions, go to
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer. Make a new DWORD
value named ThumbnailSize. Double click the value and type in a number in
decimal anywhere from 32 to 256. Of course 256 is the largest and make sure
the decimal radio button is selected. By the way if you don't know what
HKCU is you shouldn't be messing with the registry in the first place!

Or you can download Microsoft's free PowerToys Tweak UI it can set this
for you plus you get to control a lot of what can be really annoying
    standard settings.
