I don't use Autocad, just looking for a fast answer.

If one specifies a line 12 inches in Autocad, will a printer print
exactly 12 inches (any printer )?

    Thanks.

  2. If you tell it to print at full size, yes.

    It all depends,

I use to work with a printer (network) and well configured with autocad and
the difference was sometines 1/8 in. when the printer was warm and printing
    on 11 x 17 in. .
I always print/plot full size have to.
I had to make few sets of prints and gather them up to get full drawings.
It's very frustrating when you see the ends results when you put a ruler on
    it.

But thanks to ressources i finally went out and bought a plotter.

Results are as expected line are exact lenght both lenghtwise and widthwise.

Regards and hopes it will help !

While regular printers are not designed for extreme accuracy,
plotters generally are. There is also an optional calibration process
with Autocad, where you print out a known size square, and then tell
the program what size it actually printed.

You should also know that there are two ways to control printout
scale; when you use Modelviews in Paperspace, and then in the print
    (or print setup) dialog box.

  5. Cnlai,

Don't bank on it. But in general you may be off around 0.005" in 3 feet.

It all depends when the plotter was last calibrated or not.
