quadro4 750, 980 or fx1000?

  1. i *have* to buy new wks for swx. 2004 is really a cpu hog :(
    i need to decide which video board to buy, considering that in italy
    pro cards are very expensive.
    i have 3 options:
    - pny quadro4 750xgl 128mb ddr dual screen -> 450.00 euros
    - pny quadro4 980xgl 128mb ddr dual screen -> 670.00 euros
    - pny quadroy fx1000 128mb ddr2, dual screen -> 1150.00 euros

    any suggestions? are the most expensive worth their price?

    thanks in advance.

    Part of this decision depends on what type of work you do. If you do simple
    prismatic shapes and small assemblies, you could probably get away with a
    far cheaper card than you have listed.

    I do mold designs. Sometimes with fairly complex shapes. My assemblies can
    be anywhere from 300-500 parts. My Quadro4 750 XGL is great for me. But I
    wouldn't want to use anything any smaller for what I do. I probably would
    see a difference with a 980 XGL or higher, but probably only marginal.

  3. I had been using a 900XGL and then briefly used an FX500. I was fairly
    impressed with the performance of the FX card and would seriously consider
    it if price were a major issue. Now I'm using the ATI FireGL X2 and like
    it.

  4. I looked at comparisons on the web when we needed new cards. The 980 was
    only marginally faster on SW benchmarks so we went for the cheaper 750. I
    don't know anything about the fx1100, but you usually end up paying a lot
    for a few percent increase in speed. If waiting for the display to update
    really bugs you, it might be worth it, but I spend most of my time waiting
    for the rebuilds.

    I have a 750 to drive 2 monitors (2560x960)and while this is quite adequate
    realview is a noticeable performance sap in 2004.The dual set up probably
    cuts performance by 25% already but I would be tempted to say this card
    would be at the lower end of spec now. realview perf is somewhat better with
    05 ; ) of course if you don't use realview the card is fine.imo the 980
    doesn't give that much of an increase to pay 220eu for
    I would consider waiting for the next generation quadro to hit the shelves
    based on the new NVIDIA chipset-can't be far away now and then pick up an
    fx1000 at a much better clearance price.
