Starting with this, (vlax-ename->vla-object ename) how do I "Put" something
    on a layer?

    Thanks,
    Mark

  5. Hi Mark,
I saw this clearly ambiguous thread title the other day while sitting here
alone with a small crowd of coworkers and it pierced the acute dullness of
my normally active grey matter. Not enough to derail me from my standard
deviations, but enough to overcome my intense apathy and make me break the
deafening silence with a muted scream of "Hmph". I imagine that the larger
half of the computer jock group is wondering what sort of virtual reality
I'm living in! Those who know me can attest that it's one of straight
angles, tight slacks, and working vacations.

So what does all of this have to do with the price of jumbo shrimp in the
untamed suburbs? Well that's an open secret <g>

While I have found this terribly enjoyable, I have become vaguely aware that
this entire note is almost exactly like a clearly misunderstood post that I
can't show you as it's been found missing. Please note that the previous
ramblings are randomly organized unbiased opinions and are sure to draw
friendly fire and become an instant classic.

With that I have come to a rolling stop and hope that this constructive
criticism isn't taken for anything more than a tragic comedy.

It means you've been watching too much "Princess Bride" ;-)

    Bobby,
Thanks for the funnies! Can we start counting on a more
regular contribution of congenial insanity? ;-)

    Regards,

  12. Mark, CAB2k, Buttercup, Doug, Michael, et al,
I actually did have a point to make, other than blowing off steam after a
rough day. I just got wrapped up in decompressing and lost track of
    actually making the point <g>

When dealing with ActiveX you are dealing with objects. With objects you
typically don't perform actions on them, like putting an object on a layer.
Instead you update an objects properties so that its state reflects the
needs of your application. You don't really put an AutoCAD line object on a
layer, you just set the lines layer property to point to the desired layer.
It's a subtle yet important difference. So when I saw this title the
perverse logic of it jumped right out at me <g>

I know that a lot of you guys know this, but I thought that someone may
benefit from it. For me this "action oriented" mindset has been something
that I've had to overcome as I've added additional languages and design
methodologies to my toolbelt and I'd be lying if I said it's been easy.

p.s. - If I ever do write a book, it'll be a collection of bedtime stories
as I'm sure that anything that I could put on paper would put millions of
    sheep out of work.

p.p.s. - I actually will be participating in the groups much more as my
level of "congenial insanity" has grown well beyond the bounds of a single
mind and if I don't share some of it I'm sure to explode!

p.p.p.s. - I've lost at least half an hours worth of work this morning
laughing over the six fingered man!
