I know the ARG files are just text. i'm setting up profiles that will be
shared on the network, the problem i'm having is that there are parts of the
profile that reference my login for temp file paths etc. How do i make those
parts reference the users login temp paths?

I find the best way to go is to avoid login-dependent folders altogether, especially for something as relatively meaningless as temporary files. It's much simpler to create a C:\Temp folder and place them all there. It's easier to browse to and clean up when necessary as well. AutoCAD defaults to the somewhat cumbersome Windows login folder structure by default, but it doesn't hurt to change it to something more efficient, especially when you're dealing with a profile intended for multiple logins.

I agree with your comments, but AutoCAD's default behavior of placing alot
of the data (menus, pc3, etc buried away under a user's login is something
we're looking at dealing with. I know AutoCAD behaves like that to comply
with Micro$oft.. The login issue wont go away...

There's probably a more elegant way to do it, but you might consider changing the appropriate paths within the profile via lisp when AutoCAD is started, based on the login name of the user. If interested, you can do a search through the forum for "profile paths" and find a number of routines that have been posted for changing paths within a profile in this manner.
