Problems with layer management in viewports

Anyone know why this is happening?

Let's say I have one acad file called plans. Then I make two other acad
drawings, one called floor plan, one called ceiling plan. I x-ref
plans.dwg into both floor plan.dwg and ceiling plan.dwg. Then I set up
the drawing in paperspace, freezing all layers i don't want to see
within the viewport. I lock the viewport and save. Then I do the same
for the ceiling.dwg file. But then if I go back into floor plan.dwg, it
will change all the layer settings in that viewport so that they are
the same as the last file I worked on, ceiling.dwg. Why won't it save
my layer settings for each viewport without affecting the the layer
    settings in the other drawing?

I guess it has something to do with the fact that I'm using the same
x-ref for both drawings. I thought there might be a setting somewhere
that would resolve this, but I haven't found one. If anyone has come
across this and resolved it, please let me know what to do!

    Thanks!

It sounds like you're attempting to use the global freeze/thaw settings,
rather than "Freeze in Current Viewport" settings.

Check that your "VISRETAIN" is set to "1". This setting allows the
drawing to hold the layer settings, if you change it to "0" then the
Xref will use its own layer settings.

Guys, give it a chance. let the community grow.
It's not spam, nor any adware. I don't do it for profit. It's just a
free forum to discuss autoCAD related stuff.
