Printing issues w/ XP, ACAD2002

Strange things are happening when doing check prints to our network HP
    Laserjet:

    - Content from layers that are frozen, off, and marked for non-printing (and
any combo of those choices) show up in the hardcopy regardless.

    - Specific layers in xrefs turned on and visible to the screen and marked ok
for printing DON'T show up in the hardcopy one day, but DO show up the next,
despite not having done anything successfully to fix the problem the day
before, except for perhaps going home and coming back the next day.

Content from our two XP computers printing to the same Laserjet in
Photoshop, Excel, Word, and other apps don't seem to exhibit any similar
problems, or any problems whatsoever. Only AutoCAD 2002 has glitches. As
well, other non-XP machines don't have this problem printing to this network
printer. Any ideas on what to do to fix, or if it can be fixed?

The printer in question is a LaserJet 5000n, using the PCL 6 driver on one
XP machine, PCL 5e on the other (the non "point and print" driver set for
    both). Version no 4.3.2.201.

The 5000n .pc3s we're currently using are created in XP (the older .pc3s
failed to work at all when transferred to one of the new XP installations,
so we had to recreate them), as are the .pc3 to our larger format Epson
inkjet and large format HP1055CM. This problem w/ frozen, off and non-print
layers still continuing to print only occurs with the 5000n laser output
device, making accurate check prints representing the as-is nature of our
CAD files next to useless. All of our older Me and Win2K machines do not
exhibit this same quirk when printing to this same device; only the XP
    machines have this problem.

I disagree about Autodesk's self-service Knowledge Base being a useful
resourse. Every frickin' time I do a search there, from extremely general
terms to very specific phrases, I rarely ever get relevant results.
