    Dear subscribers

I'm currently helping one of my customers to upgrade from ADT 2004 to ABS
2005. The idea is to deploy ABS the same way as we deployed ADT, i.e. by
using Windows Group Policy Objects (GPO). The procedure is documented in the
documentation on the ABS disks, but the general idea is to assign the
ABS.msi package to the computers that should run the application and to
create an .mst-file using the Network Installation Wizard (NIW). Actually
the msi, mst and all other files are created by NIW on a network
    installation folder on the server.

The installation on the computers seems to work fairly well and we don't
receive any errors in the system's event log. The problem occurs when the
user tries to start ABS. When it's started for the first time a second
installation/configuration sequence is initiated which I guess configures
necessary settings for the user account. The result of this operation is
dependent on whether the user has local administrator privileges on the
computer in question. If the user have admin privileges ABS starts without
any trouble but if the user is a "normal" user the configuration process
halts after a while with the message "AutoCAD Alert: Configuration file may
be locked by another process or have been set to read only." (see links
below for message box images). The user is forced to cancel the
configuration process which aborts ABS, see the second image.

The network installation image is created using NIW. In the image we include
ABS 2005 sp2, change the installation path to "C:\Program" (since we're
running Swedish version of Win XP), and changed the profile name to "STI".
Apart from those changes we're using the standard settings proposed by NIW.

Actually, we had the same problem with ADT 2004 but managed to solve it by
using the installation procedure described above, i.e. we changed from "user
assigned" to "computer assigned" GPO install, but it seems like that
procedure doesn't help with ABS 2005.

The client workstations are running Windows XP Pro, sp2 (Swedish version).

I would also like to point out that since we're a school it's not feasible
to give administrator privileges to all students, i.e. we need to find a
solution where the configuration can be completed for users with normal
    privileges.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards, Ola Theander
