I am trying to set up a plotter correctly to create eps files for conversion to pdf. (I am using Autocad 2004). I can make the file but it always comes out as 8 1/2 x 11so I just get a corner of the drawing which is 24 x 36. I have the size set to that, I can't see what I am doing wrong. can someone walk me through the set up please?

  2. So, what are you using to distill (convert) the EPS to PDF?

The EPS files that the AutoCAD PostScript driver creates can be a good
starting point for creating PDF's; unfortunately there is no page size
information in these files. But the bounding box in the EPS files
happens to be exactly the size of the paper that you selected in AutoCAD.

If you are using a recent version of GhostScript, you can tell it to
take the bounding box as page size with the commandline switch
"-dEPSCrop". Using that switch the PDF's will get the correct size
    automagically.

BTW, another nice feature of this way of creating PDF's is that the
PDF's are in the proper orientation and it is pretty flexible with
    (large) page sizes.

I've no idea what happened but now I am getting only 4" x 8"! I am converting the EPS file in adobe.
Dean, I tried one of these free programs and it told me I needed to download some "apple" files, strange I thought those were for Mac computers. I would prefer to be able to use the program efficiently rather than keep downloading more add-ons.

The best way I've found is using Adobe's Acrobat Distiller to create the PDF's right from AutoCAD. Why use and extra step if you don't need to.

If you've got Adobe Acrobat, just set up an AutoCAD printer to use the Acrobat Distiller. When you plot to this, a PDF file will Automatically be generated.
(Only drawback is limited to 8-1/2"x11" or 11"x17" paper size)

Unless you get or have the Professional Edition of Acrobat, this will allow you to create full size PDF's of any sheet size. I don't believe that it's that expensive; it was well worth the cost for us.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Adobe is a manufacturer of several programs. So the question is still:
what are you using? If you mean Adobe Acrobat, I agree with arrco that
it's easiest to use Adobe's own (Distiller) driver; then you just "print
    to PDF" in one step.

I don't know what the free program could be referring to with "Apple"
    files; you don't need any.
