Plotting metric drawing to imperial paper sizes

In ADT 5, when I try to plot a metric drawing to imperial paper sizes, I'm
unable to select a metric scale (and vice versa). I can select a metric
scale only when a metric paper size is selected. Since the printer doesn't
have metric paper sizes loaded, it refuses to print. It's a nuisance to
have to convert the scale to imperial (e.g. 1:50 to 1"=1270 units) in order
to print to an imperial paper size. This is new to ADT 5, but I don't think
it's an improvement, or am I missing something?

Actually, it hasn't always been like that. ;) Previous to 2005, you could
work in metric and plot to a metric scale (say 1:100) onto imperial size
paper (say 11 x 17) by selecting "mm" for printable area. In 2005, if you
choose 11x17 paper, the plot dialog box switches to inches for scaling, you
can't choose a metric scale. And if I choose a metric paper size, I can
choose a metric scale, but the printer will refuse to print, because it
    doesn't have metric paper loaded (A3 not being same as 11 x 17). It's a
nuisance, and I wonder why this was changed.
