    Hello All:

I have a client that's looking for a 36" wide plotter that will average
about 5 to 10 AutoCAD plots per week. Color is not required. Cut sheet is
fine. Must be networkable (shared via ethernet between two workstations -
can be done via external box). Lower cost but fixable is important (used
machines with good/serviceable warranties are fine). Baltimore - DC area.

My usual supplier says he hasn't been impressed by HP's low end offerings in
    this area.

    Any other recommendations out there?

    NO !
your choise is between HP and HP:
    HP 100, HP 430 or HP 500
I have seen no other brand of low end plotters that are still working after 5 years (exept cadJet with HP drvers)

    Patrick:

    Thanks for the response.
The dealer was so reluctant to recommend any of those three - have you
    personally used those models?

Your dealer is probably just looking at bigger markups on newer, more
expensive machines. We have an HP 350C (precursor to the 4xx series) that's
running superbly after over 8 years of service. One of our contractor
friends bought a used 430 about a year ago, and has had absolutely no
    problems with it.

    Hey Paul:

    Thanks for the reality check.

To add to what Paul said, if the client would consider buying a
used/refurbished plotter, they're readily available from plotter supply
    dealers and on ebay.
