I can set my plotter/printer t oprint to file, but it will not print to a
PRN, only PLT. Is there any way around this?

  2. "Plt" is only a filename extension with no other meaning than that a
file with this extension is some sort of plotfile (printfile) for some
sort of plotter (printer). It does not tell for what plotter/printer the
file is meant. You can rename it to anything else, including "prn".

Just like "plt", the "prn" extension has no other meaning than that it
is some sort of printfile, created with a (Windows) printerdriver for
some sort of printer. Again it does not tell for what printer the file
    is meant.

Why, for what, do you (think you) need the "prn" extension?

I had tried this approach, and it still ended up in PLT format. I was aware
of renaming the files, but I was trying to avoid doing that if I didnt have
to. I want to use Acrobat distiller to convert my files for me, after being
    created in a "watched" directory.

  4. The Adobe (Distiller) "printer" driver creates PDF's automatically, no
    watched folder needed.
