Does anyoen know the exact order in which what you select is
overridden by the other? (ie face/surface graphically, features in the
tree...)Or is it just based on what was last selected?

  2. Face trumps feature.
    Feature trumps part.

Component material (material applied to a part in an assembly) used to trump
part color only, but circa SW2001+ or so I think it now trumps everything.
To be honest, I always apply my materials to the part so I haven't had the
    opportunity to observe the behavior.

  3. Not sure I understand the question but I assume you are refering to
    apply materials.

You can apply a material to an entire part or assembly by selecting
the part or assembly name in the tree. All materials applied to a
part (in an Assembly) overide materials applied to an assembly. A
material applied to a feature in the tree overides the material
applied to the part and a material applied to a face overides a
material applied to a feature or the entire part.

Hope this is what you were looking for.
