Perpendicular to a wavy line

    I have two splay lines runnung along beside each at varying distances.
    Is there a command when that i can get to co-ord information in the second
    line per to the first line. IE


    Pick line a (OK)
    pick line b (OK)

    Problem

    After picking a point (P1) on (line a) I need another point on (line b)
    which is located perpendicular to (line a) at (p1)

    Any help would be much appreciated
