What is the best and has anyone got 2004 + Windows XP because that is where the program we use now totally bombs out.

Adobe Acrobat....never fails. We have it on most of our machines here,
    along with the distiller.

It fails me all the time. I'm using version 5 - distiller.
What happens when you have differently sized sheets in the office and you get one working well and it messes up all the other settings? I'm struggling with this right now.
I hope the answer isn't a separate pc3 file for each paper size/orientation.

That's what I've done with PDF Xchange, haven't tried it with the others. Good luck!

Using AutoCAD 2004 and XP pro with PDF995 (a freebie) with no problems.

  6. To create PDF's from any program (including AutoCAD) try this: http://www.pdf995.com/download.html

Is free, works 100% accurate. The free versions of pdf995 products will display a sponsor page in your web browser each time you run the software.

    Good luck!

I have tried PDF995 and CutePDF and both work fine as long as my sheet size is 8.5x11. But if I go to a larger sheet size, the PDF always gets rotated, and sometimes cut off. I have tried creating custom PC3's but can't seem to get one to work. Have you had this problem?

That is the exact problem we have. We waste more time on pdf's than we can afford. Large formats just give us fits! We encourage our teams to use DWF's where possible.

  9. Since you already have some copies of our AcroPlot software email me
directly and we'll see what we can do for you. The new version is much
improved for both the AcroPlot and the PDF-XChange driver and our new Pro
does DWF as well. We'll be releasing a new version in just a few days and
with the Pro it now comes bundled with the driver also so we can now give
you one total solution for both your PDF and DWF needs.

Also with a site license we have a basic API that we've worked with
customers to create menus so the users don't even need to see the AcroPlot
Jr. interface and the users just select a menu and it puts the PDF right
where you want it. So if you're wasting time just get in touch with me and
we'll help you get things working the way that you need.

Which version of Acad are you using? I had problems in R2002, but R2005 has
been working fine, with any page size. The rotation thing is actually an
Acrobat Reader issue. If the user has the reader set to autorotate, then all
is well, and if they don't then they need to press one button to get there.
I gave up worrying about it ;)
As for version, I am using cutePDF, just because the nag screen in PDF995
(free) annoyed me. CutePDF (free) doesn't autoname the PDF file, but I
figured I can get PDF on every desktop, then argue for a site license of
full CutePDF on next year's budget. Acrobat 6.0 pisses me off. It tries to
insinuate itself all over the place, and all I really want is a printer, not
a special button in every application, especially AutoCAD that doesn't print
like other apps. We do have Acrobat on our Graphics machine, for those
occations where we need the beefier feature set, but CutePDF for free or a
few hundred bucks for a site license made more sense than $400/seat that the
crack heads at Adobe want for Acrobat. I might deal with Adobe on every
machine if they offered an Acrobat Lite, but I have talked to them and they
see no need, since cutePDF, PDF995 and others are already doing it. Kind of
like the Apple mentality of never cater to the 'lower end' because it
dilutes the brand. Bunk, but whatever ;)

    Best,
    Gordon
