Pattern Matching into Blocks?

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Martin Schmid, Dec 30, 2003.

  1. Has anyone considered - or better yet developed (free source code available)
a pattern matching utility for AutoCAD?

Ideally, a user would be able to identify a group of objects - i.e. a 2x4
rectangle (polyline) with two lines drawing diagonally. Then, AutoCAD would
identify all instances of this, despite orientation, and convert in-place to
a block reference, defined by the originally identified objects.

The utility comes from 'inherited' drawings that the creator didn't use
blocks, or for whatever reason, exploded them. There are obvious benefits
to having blocks, versus lines, polylines, etc, but many users aren't that
    insightful.

Anyway - I'm looking for it, or looking to develop it if no-one has it.
