paperspace grid keeps on plotting on top of linework

I have a grid that is xrefed into paperspace as a base sheet. I have the base sheet sent to the back. In the page setup I have paperspace plotted last UNchecked.

The linework is model space and there are notes in paper space. I do a full preview and the grid is behind all the linework and when I plot the grid is on top of all the linework. This does this on two different plotters (Xerox510 and HP1050c). Both plotters have all the latest drivers.

but when I create a PDF it seems to work fine. Just when I send an actual plot the grid lays on top of everything.

I have checked and unchecked the box that says "plot paperspace last" and moved the basesheet to the back and everything else to the front using draw order. I am at a loss and it is really annoying.

Thank to anyone who can help,

Not sure if your plotters have this option, but with an HP800 there is a setting under Plotter Manager>"You Plotter Here">Graphics that says "Lines Merge" and "Lines Overwrite", it sounds like your linework is overwriting when you want it to merge.

Just a shot in the dark, hope it'll help.
