Orienting plots to 17" wide roll

I have an HP designjet 500 plotter. I bought 2 rolls of 17" wide plotttng
paper with the intent that I could plot sets of plans on 11x17 sheets
without having to hand feed the plotter. My plan set sheets were layed out
to plot on a laser printer which required that they be portait oriented
sheets. My drawings are landscape oriented.

To plot the sheets to the plotter using the 17" roll, I want to select all
the layout tabs and send them off to plot so I can let the spooler feed the
data to the plotter while I work. However, when I select multiple layout
tabs, I am not able to control the plotter settings to orient the sheets to
fit the roll and the plots end up portait oriented on the roll.

Did I waste my money buying the 17" rolls or can I get around this problem?
I need to be able to work with both the laser printer and the plotter and I
can't go changing all the page layouts to suit the device each time.

I am using ACAD 2002. I could use batchplot if that is my best option.
