Orientation dialog box

  1. Here's the latest.

I have determined by investigating 14 different combinations of machines
that the common factor in all of them is to be on SW 2005 SP2.0, and then it
will work properly. It appears that any other SP makes it misbehave!
(SW2004 SP5 & SW2006 PR2 appear to work fine.) I also did not have any
machines with any operating system other than XP, so I can't account for
    that either.

Now, that being said, here is the test procedure. **(Turn off large tool
    tips.)**

    1. Open a part or assy and go to a named view (front, etc.)
    2. Open the orientation dialog box (space bar) - you should see your
    selected view highlighted.
    3. Single left-click on another view in that box.
    4. Move your cursor up over one of the 3 buttons at the top (not the Pin
one) and move it back and forth across the buttons.

At that point a misbehaving system will jump the highlight in the box back
to the current view. On all machines but mine, the first time this is tried
after opening the orientation box, the highlight doesn't jump until the
second button receives the focus. On my machine only, the highlight jumps
as soon as the first button receives the focus. After the first traversal
to the buttons, as in "Let's try that again without closing the box.", it
always jumps as the first button receives the focus.

On my machine, I had been at SP4.0, but then I uninstalled SW2005 &
reinstalled it to SP0 - it misbehaved. So I took it to SP2.0 - it worked
fine. So then I took it to SP3.0 - it misbehaved. So then I took it to
    SP4.0 - it misbehaved.

The range of the machines I verified covered WinXP SP1 or SP2, nVidia Quadro
or FX video cards, ATI FireGL video cards, SW SP0.1 to 4.0, different screen
resolutions, different video drivers, different operators. And through all
of that, the common factor was that if the machine was at SW SP2.0, it
worked fine with large tool tips either on or off.

Now something else I found interesting was that if you totally turn off the
tool tips, they still show up in the orientation box. Is this a clue,
maybe? They don't show up with the toolbars, but they still do in the
    orientation box. Strange indeed.
