open dwg always write-protected

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Pierre de la Verre, Nov 3, 2003.

  1. Hello

I'm looking for a way to open dwgs always in a write-proteced mode. Is it
    possible to start autocad with

    - an option or
    - a profile or
    - a cmd or
    - a batch or
    - something else

in a way, that all opened dwgs are protected??
The reason is that some users (without any practice in autocad!) have to
use autocad as a "viewer", and only write-protection is a secure way to
avoid damage. Other users (with same network rights) have to open the same
files for edit and save ...

    Thanks

    Pierre

    Pierre,

You can select all drawing in one directory at once and right click them.
Choose properties and than check read only in the check box. All drawings
will open read only until the checkbox is unchecked. There is no other way
    to
get the effect you want without some serious programming.

Hope to have been of some use to you,

  3. Hello M,

as I wrote above we have two groups of users: the "viewers" and the
    "editors".

To set the file attributes to "read-only" stops the editors to work with the
    file.

  4. Are the "viewers" able to use something like Voloview express instead of
    AutoCAD for opening the drawings?

  5. Matthew,

we had VoloView, but tge drawings have a lot of referenced tifs and VoloView
is not able to show referenced tifs - and Bentley View is not able either
    .....

Do you know a way to make ref-tifs visible inside a viewer??
