Old Canon BJ-330

I'm trying to print on A2 paper (manual feed at the front) on my old Canon
BJ-330. If I monitor the print spooling, it tells me it's spooling the
file, but the size is zero bytes. The file size is in excess of 7mb.

The thing prints on A4 and A3 size with no problem with other files.

Is it the driver (I think I have the latest available) or something else?

I'm hoping that there is someone somewhere who still uses the BJ-330 :)

    Thanks.

  2. Hi there,
I also use a BJ-330 with WinXP. I have never monitored the spooling but what
I have noticed is that the useable print area on an A2 sheet has been
reduced. When I upgraded from 98 to XP a month or so ago I had to reduce the
"top" & "bottom" margins on the screen in order to get the title block to
fit. XP had it's own BJ-330 driver so I suspect it's Gates' fault again. I
tried to log on Canon's site but they wanted cookies etc to enabled before
they would let me in, I declined.
All in all it's a fantastic printer. Mine's over 11 years old and was
serviced for the first time at the beginning of the year. A new sponge and a
ribbon cable for the head was installed and still going strong. If you have
driver could I ask for a copy ;-)

Maybe XP ( if you're using it ) is the problem. On numerous occassions when
I'm doing something the progress bar stays blank but the fille is still
    being moved, copied etc.

    Cheers

    Bernard

    Thanks for the comments, Bernard.
The operating system is Win98. I have not needed to print A2 before; A3 on
the BJ-330 seems to suite most of what I have been doing, but I now have a
large map to print and that's when I came across this problem.

The manual says that for paper size equivalent to A2 it needs to work in
Mode 2 (Epson emulation), so I have set the DIP switches to that mode
(having previously tried Mode 1). I can send you a copy of the driver if
you wish, but I don't know if it would work with XP.

There must be a way of finding out what's happening to the streamed file.
It tells be there's a printing error at the same time as saying it's been
processed O.K. :-(( It's strange that it shows zero bytes for a large
    file.

I use one for A3 plotting but didn't know it could handle A2, as I didn't get
a manual with it (2nd hand), and rely on the WinME driver and what is printed
on the top cover. If I find another at $Aus30 I'll buy it. Nice big ink
    cartridges, easy to find/refill ...
Does anyone have a PDF version of the manual? Was PDF popular - or even in
    existence - back then?

Aha! Haven't tried refilling. Had a nasty blockage problem using
non-original cartridges, which meant a new head.

How's refilling done on those cartridges? It's getting to be a rare thing,
    the BJI-642.

I don't know if the manual is still available from Canon. Might be worth a
check on their web site - or send an email to Support.

  6. I also refilled after I had the 330 for about 5 months. I wasn't aware of
"bad" inks back then. Mine was sent to the agents where they basically
gutted the machine. All I got back of my original machine was the beige case
    & a HUGE account !
I now keep a Canon S9000 A3 printer as a backup but would like to hear more
on the 330 refill story. What type / manufacture / supplier of the inks do
    you use ?

No idea on refill specs. Maybe after the comments above I'll stock up
on some new cartridges. Currently using Calidad 934-BK (40ml) which has run
about 100+ drawings with no problems - these don't cost much more than a
refill anyway. No sign of a PDF manual at Canon, just a few items of advice
    for problems.

I use Jettec compatibles for my Epson Stylus C80. None available for the
BJ-330. I might try Jettec ink for a BJ-330 refill..
