because you guys like to push the bounds of possibility of Realview
into the realms of premature unaffordability and you're all sitting
twiddling your thumbs now, heres another idea to keep you amused...I
'll leave you to figure out ways to make good use of it in SW..hint-
dont forget those new MS table displays and the iPhone...and the
possibilities of GPU computing and SLI

remember we still need to get decently parallel with SW though thats
    the priority...

BTW that avenue might give you an excuse to have another go at the UI
    again and get it right.
Please treat this as a CAD application that needs CAD solns ie don't
ape MS Office and make it 'pretty'.
I want proper icons that are instantly recognisable symbols and not
    photo realistic colour co-ordinated mush.
I want fine lines not wool tufts that glow in the dark.
I want caps on my curvature combs not waving palm fronds
I want everything as accessible as possible with min clicks.
    I want all this yesterday!
but then again we had that yesterday and then someone 'improved' it

BTW2 if someone would take that self help book away from Big JMc that
teaches him to eliminate as much thinking as possible I would be very
    grateful

too bad you were using a linux app to crank on swx. oh well
    :~)>

bob z. hates himself and hates solidworks, designing, engineering, etc
even more. it's cool, though. bob z. will be dead soon enough.

Quter curvature comb plot option was put back in with SW 2007 SP2. Go
to Tools/options/Sketches to default it back on.

How about two spaceballs and foot operated mice so you can use both
hands and feet. This revolutionized 3D modeling back in the 60's and
70's. Then replace the keyboard with spoken commands. Imagine doing an
assembly with a part on each spaceball and the foot mice calling up
    the mate command.

actually I better describe how I envisaged it might work...

select and edge or axis ..and a reference direction or plane
a blade is created..(effect is a bit like adding a dimension..)
pull out and/or rotate the blade to orientation wanted
sketch a spline ...or whatever as per normal..
pull around the blade to adjust...include slide on axis
lofts made with blades can be adjusted directly

dunno if it is useful its just an idea I had as I woke up this morning

    But what is it?

I ask since I'm a dead-ass snoozing SW developer on occasion.

that sir is a plane on the end of a bit of string....

its made like that so you can fly it where you want..and give it
roll, pitch and yaw and run along the ground with it...

its a bit like a desk lamp with sprung arms....

    whats it for?
it makes it easy to place a loft section in space relative to existing
    geometry..(along with 'blades')...imagine wrapping a surface for a
plastic case around a inkjet printer mechanism or bodywork on a
    scooter....clearances etc

you can push and rock and roll it around directly and change the shape
of the loft without attacking the sketched spline or messin with
making support geometry to place planes..

or at least that was what I thought it might do ;o)

    actually..

what it might do is allow a change of approach to design whereby
instead of making large sheets into a volume and then cutting and
rounding off the corners or adding features you make the corners first
and features first and then fill in the rest...hmmm...weird...

    btw...)
one of the problems with being a half assed sub-conscious idea person
is that those ideas need time to flesh out and explore... this stuff
came to me in the light grey period of waking up one morning..and
might lead/leap off in other directions or arrangements with further
    thought/dreaming...
if you are a developer or programmer that probably isnt your way of
functioning - you want a detailed description to enact...I'm sorry I
dont have the free time to do that but I gave you guys threads to pull
on...maybe they come to something maybe not, but please do a reality
test on it before incorporating it...we dont want UI reincarnations
converging on what we already had for instance.
