objectDBX question

As I understand it, once upon a time you had to have a copy of AutoCAD not
just installed, but running to use objectDBX within another app (Word, for
example, or a VB app). Is this still the case? I would hope that by now you
could at least use the DLL standalone, without a running instance of
    AutoCAD.

    Thanks,
    Gordon

Bummer. It seems that, if I have a copy of AutoCAD INSTALLED I should be OK,
and not need it to also be RUNNING. Especially since a running instance,
even a hidden one, shows floating toolbars and such, there is no gracefull
way to have something happen totally in the background. I certainly
understand the need to licence objectDBX if AutoCAD isn't even going to be
    installed on the machine.
Jorge, can you point me at any good web resources on objectDBX stuff? I am
going to be playing a lot tonight.

    Best,

  4. Yes, floating AutoCAD tool bars in your desktop is a real bummer.!!
Not much on the web about the subject.
But just about everything you need to get started is in this NG.

  6. There´s no need to download the 60,400 posts in this NG.
Use google newsgroup search feature, and you'll save alot of time

    Gordon -

The discussion group search engine provides flexibility for
searching through existing message content. To search:

    1. Go to http://discussion.autodesk.com/

    2. Select a product (Example: AutoCAD and then from that drop
    down chose Visual Basic Customization)

    3. Type your keywords into the search box and click Search. I
used "objectDBX" without the "" an got 81 results to browse
    through.

Note: You can further refine your query by selecting a specific
discussion group from the dropdown provided. Your group choices
will vary in the drop down, based on where you have navigated on
    the discussion group site.

Search results are sorted by relevance (a complex query of all
relevant content based on your keywords and group choices).
Clicking on the message result will display the entire thread
(the series of messages and replies). Clicking on the Post date
will sort the results by date with most recent first.

You folks are way to on top of things! I was doing some Google searches, and
the main limitation was my inability to read cyrilic ;) As it is I have some
drawings that just came due (I love how that happens), then it's objectDBX
    the rest of the night.

    Off I go.
    Thanks again,
    Gordon
