When you choose shadows in shaded mode for the view is there any way to
change the location i.e. distance form the model and orientation i.e. I want
it to cast on the right plane orientation not the top plane, the virtural
ground the shadow is cast on?

Just turn the model 90dgress, with right side pointing downwards and then
turn on shadows, now flip it back and the shadow will follow and stay till
    You turn it off/on again

Thank you, now how do I adjust the distance of the shadow from the object?

I'm sorry, but I have no good answer to that one....never tried to change it
and actually not using the shadow mode very often either.

I havent used it in the past but could make some quick screen captures for
clients that way and have a whizzy shadow to boot if the shadow was not 3
miles away. Again not that important but thanks for the help

I think if you place a very small part several units "under" your existing
part/assy the shadow will be generated from the "lowest" part. This would only
be useful in limited circumstances though...
