not enough ink plotting from R14, in XP Pro

We're running autoCAD 14 on XP, but have other computers running 14 on Win98. When they plot to our HP plotter (onto velum) the ink is great, dark, still wet in places as the plot continues. Yet when I plot from 14 in XP Pro, the ink is light. It won't work well when I make blueprint copies. We've checked the pen assignments etc. The line widths look fine, just not enough ink. Is the plotter going faster because of XP? If so, how do I slow it down? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for any help!!

Check to make sure that your plotter setting is not at draft. I found that
when we upgraded here, the software setting for the plotter was set to
draft. Bump it up at least to normal, but I prefer the final quality
    better.

Thanks for the reply. We did check that both in ACAD and directly on the plotter. Even changing from normal to best did very little to increase the amount of ink. I was just looking at a paper copy I plotted. It has little gaps and spaces, so I'm thinking that xp pro is making the plotter polt faster than it should, resulting in less ink. But I have no idea how to slow it down.

    Any other suggestions?

The only other thing I can think of is to actually change the setting in
Windows itself. Go to Printers and Faxes, open the plotter, and go to
preferences. Then, go to printer preferences, and try changing it in there.
If that doesn't work, try upgrading drivers, or using a different driver.
