My current mouse, and IntelliMouse optical using Intellipoint 4.1, has worn
out after 3 years. The left button has begun giving unpredictable results. A
single left click now, more often than not, results in a double-click. So,
it has to go. It has been a good egg and is going to be missed.

I purchased a wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 which uses Intellipoint
5.0. I have the old IntelliMouse optical left side button programmed to
function as "escape". To my dismay, the left side button of the new mouse
does not have the option of being programmed as "escape". Additionally, the
wheel will not let me pan when pressed (mbuttonpan set to 1). From what I
can gather, most of the new mouses (Is that correct? The plural of mouse is
mice in the animal kingdom.) are being made to provide various web browsing
functions. The packaging for the new mouse bragged about all the programming
options but was not specific as to various functions. I had to pay 50 bucks
to discover it wasn't suited for my AutoCAD preferences.

Can anyone suggest a new mouse that provides left button "escape"
programming and the wheel depression lets one pan in AutoCAD? It doesn't
    have to be wireless.

    Thanks

For that middle button pan (scroll wheel) to function in autocad, go to the
mouse settings in windows control panel and set the middle button to "middle
button". As far as a mouse recommendation, I can't offer you anything.
I've been using a trackball for years. I'll never use a mouse again.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try it and see how that works. But, I
still need (want) to be able to program the side button for "escape".
