I need to make a second "black" color in cad.. one that plots to a
color i specify (the latter part is easy)..

I can't use color "7" the black/white.. since it is already in use, and
i intend to set the screening of this new black to 0%....

    can it be done???...

that is the reason i want a second black.. I don't want it visible.

Maybe disclose what the purpose is? If you just don't want something to be
seen, all objects have a 'visible' property that can be set through ActiveX.

    250 gets you pretty close

that is what i use for masking; dark enough to be obvious in its intent, but
still visible enough to know its there (just in case it becomes an
    "artifact")

I intend to use this new color for the background mask of text/dims.
the "background color" leaves dots on all our plots.. so i need a color
that i can screen out, and since "background" is color 7 (black/white)..
and we use white for some text.. i can't screen it.

i guess a wipeout isn't going to suit your needs?
    they are "black"

what is the nature of the entities that will have this color?

I'm sorry if I sound confused, but wouldnt't simply truning off or freezing
the dim & text layers do the trick? Or is it just some? Or temproraily set
the layer color to black no plot?

    I guess I am confused...

If i turn off or freeze the text layers.. then how do you propose I show
    the text in plots????????

    a) I want the text to show up
    b) I want it to be masked with the "background color" (in my case color 7)
    c) I want to remove the dots that are being created by the background
    mask (ie: screen that color)
    d) I can't screen color 7 since we also use it for some text (the curse
    of the black/white color).

Thusly I want to make a NEW black color that I can screen, for use with
    background mask.. follow now?

try a true color of 0,0,0

i just tested it and it works for me.

    I guess I'm real confused.

You can set any color to plot with any other color and screen it. Pick color 59, set it's plot color to whatever and screen it. On the screen it'll be 59, on the plot it'll be whatever, screened.

What are you trying to do that can't be done by WIPEOUT?

Essentially that is what I want.. but I want that color to be the same
as the background.. so it can't be seen IN the drawing (thus is my
    problem).

    C,

This is probably an answer you don't want, but, consider getting
either a new printer/plotter or a new driver for your printer/plotter. When
I use the background text mask on dimensions and mtext there
are no dots plotted in the background. Wish I could be more helpful.

Wouldn't that open it up for inadvertent editing? How would you know it
moved? Is there some reason you don't want to "see" it?

you don't need to see it, it is the "background mask" of text/dims..
and thus PART of the text/dim.

If i thought that would solve it i would suggest it.. but i don't think
that is it. all our printers/plotters do it.

If you post a small part of a drawing with the problem, I'd be
glad to look at it. What is your OS? Are you using the latest
    drivers? (Wild guesses).

    C,
I opened your drawing and used page setup to set up two plots:
    1. HP Designjet 750C, AIA Standard.ctb 18x24 Fit Plot
    2. HP Photosmart 7660, AIA Standard.ctb 8-1/2x11 Fit Plot

Both plots were clean black and white. Absolutely no dots
or background on the mtext masked area on either plot. They
were both crystal clean. Perhaps there is something else
wrong at your end that you've overlooked. Have you got
a water mark? Have you made changes to your ctb and stb files?

    I used ADT 2005 OOTB.

we have tried changing our ctb file.. (no luck).. tried new ctb (no
luck).. tried no ctb (no luck)..

we have all the latest drivers.. latest os patches.. latest cad patches
    (ie: none)..

we are at a loss. everyone but us can plot these things perfect.. we
love the background mask, but can't be sending out drawings like this.
