Need to Replace HD/Q about license

Note: I originally posted this in the ADT forum, but I realize now that this is a better place to seek an answer.

My daughter is a student, and recently installed and activated a perpetual student license for Architectural Desktop 2005 on her Dell laptop.

She is now having a heat related problem with her hard drive (unrelated to software; the HD crashes after being on for an hour or two, after cool-down, it works again). I will be replacing the HD in her laptop this weekend. I will also take this opportunity to do a clean install of XP w/SP2.

What I would like to know is what is the best method to pursue reinstalling/reactivating her license?

Should we install the software on a second computer and use the license export feature, then export the license back from the seond computer to the original computer?

Will it be necessary to do anything other that reinstalling the software (i.e., the Autodesk database will detect the same computer and reassign the license appropriately)?

I read through some of the FAQs, and it seems to me that the export/import/export routine would do the trick, but I would like to do this in the least painful method. If just reinstalling to a new HD in the same machine will do the trick, I would be very much pleased. But I am not sure. Therefore, I seek the advice of the sages here who may have had a similar experience in the past.
