I am looking for some formula that shows how to estimate BOARD FEET, CONCRETE BLOCKS, SHINGLES for roofing, MASONRY things of that nature. Any one that can help I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance,

Danny: Whew! Suppose this estimate has to be done tomorrow?

One board foot = volume of a board one foot square and one inch thick. Have to do the match for various sizes.

"Normal" size concrete block is nominal 16 inches long x niminal 8 inches high. Normal thicknesses run from nominal 4 inches to nominal 16 inches. One 8 inch block and one normal mortar joint equals actual 16 inces by actual 8 inches.

Shingles are generally sold by the square which is 10 feet by 10 feet. The number of shingles per square will vary depending on the design of the shingle and the pitch of the roof. Asphalt or fiberglass shingles are generally applied with the same vertical coursing so pitch is not usually a factor. IF Wood shingles are used, overlap (exposure) varies considerably with the pitch of the surface to which they are applied.

Count up everything and add 10 to 20 percent for waste and "fudge factor".

    Hope this helps.
