I'm designing 7 houses that I then need to place on a plot plan w/ 7 different lots. I've xrefed them into the plot plan-no worries. I now want to send just the house configuration (roof outline and building footprint) back to the civil engineer so he can update his files as needed. I want to be able to update my file and send it to him as it is updated. Since I have 7 xrefs to put into his file in a certain configuration, what is the best way to do this?

I tried creating a wblock file with just the house configuration but it brings in the house with ALL the layers turned on. 7 houses-many layers. I could send him his original file w/ the housed configured on it but there must be a better way to streamline this process for updates. Thanks.

How 'bout this (off the top of my head, so watch out)...

    Create new drawing.

Xref OVERLAY *your* plot plan into it.
(It already has everything xreffed in there, according to your message.)

Now draw, what?, 14 closed plines for the roof outline and building
    footprints.
I would *think* it ought to be cake to do that.

Now send the consultant *that* drawing. When you need to send him a revised
one, just open it up and make sure the footprint and roof plines in it are
up to date with the xrefs.

Drawing ought to be ~80Kb total (unless you have 1.5MB of layer filters
    attached...)

If you have Express tools you don't have to trace the footprints. Just use
    Ncopy.

  4. Don't worry about it. You have the house xreffed in correctly, just send him
the drawing with the houses attached as xrefs and also the xrefs. The number
of layers doesn't matter becaise he can control them as a single bunch
    simply by using xrefname|*.

That way, if the houses change, all you have to do is send him the revised
    house xref .

  5. The Civil guy dosen't need the plot plan back, it's his
already. He needs the houses placed correctly in the
coorinate system, so all he has to do is xref them into his
plot plan. The same thing with the houses in reverse, Andy
xrefs the plot plan into the houses. In both cases each has
to only deal with his own files as the updates occur.
Neither one has to deal with getting "his stuff" back
    changed by someone else.

    Just another way.
