mtext backgrund mask

hi!
having problems printing mtext (acad 2005) with background mask (fill color:
use background):

printing over ghostscript works fine and right as i wanted (writing black;
background white), but printing over HP Designjet 650 C only a solid black
box was printed.

opening the drawing in 2004 with white paperspace background, the

my suspicion: driver problems?

and goes wrong with
-HP DesignJet 750C/PS (windows system printer) ps8.hdi Version
1.1.8.1.63.0 (k039-1)
-HP DesignJet 650C C2859B.pc3; hpgl28.hdi Version
1.1.8.1.63.0 (U5-1)
(installed as win 2000 systemprinter v 4.63)
