MS plotting color instead of black and white

I have had this problem with my LDDT 2004 and now with my LDDT 2005, here goes:
I have a drawing that has been plotting just fine using my .ctb file which converts line colors to black with a specific pen #. This drawing and the one I had problems with in 2004 both started to ignore the .ctb file and plot any model space objects in color, while any paper space objects plotted in black and white using the .ctb file's pen #. This happened several months ago with my '04 drawing and just recently with my '05 drawing on a different project. I was able to work around this problem by INSERTing the drawing into a new template. The problem with this work around is that the information comes into the new drawing in block form which then has to be exploded and some of the information is lost in the mix. So I end up haveing to figure out what was left behind, which file references still work, which ones don't etc... Can someone tell me of a way to fix the original drawing and save myself hours worth of work, pain, anguish and a growing desire to take a long walk off of a short peir.
    Thanks,
