Milwaukee and Chicago area - SolidWorks World preview session

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Edward T Eaton, Jan 13, 2005.

  1. CATI has allowed me to try out a new SolidWorks World presentation as part
of their 'CATIpult' series so I can get audience feedback and work out the
    kinks before getting to Orlando.

It's about 'How to prevent and repair rebuild errors' ( I actually wanted
to call it 'Trees of Blood', but I encountered some resistance to that title
from the folks planning SWx World).

Not everybody creates curvy models, not everyone deals with large
assemblies, not everyone uses toolbox, API, FEA, etc, all of which are
subjects we see presented a lot at SWx World, VAR events and user groups.
However, EVERYONE that uses SolidWorks gets rebuild errors pretty much every
day, and I have never seen a presentation - or run into a decent tutorial -
on how to get through them! To calmly and quickly work through problems,
never have to delete child features because of a problem with a parent, use
side-by-side editing to fix any model in a fraction of the time, fix mates,
drag the meatball, etc (anyone else seen anything, other than that one
chapter in the SWx training manuals? The closest I have seen was a session
at SWx World 2000 that touched on some good best-practices for making
relations to prevent rebuild errors, which is also explored in this session)

I will be doing it in Brookfield Wisconsin on January 20, and Buffulo Grove,
Il on January 25. If you are interested (especially if you can't make it to
    SWx World) follow this link:
    http://www.cati.com/solidworks_catipult.htm

I appreciate any feedback I can get from the audience to make it better/more
useful. For the rest of you, we will be posting it on our website by early
    February.

  2. Is this presentation for this year? I don't remember seeing it in the
    lineup.

    Ed,

Are you asking for area peeps to register for the pre SWW presentations, or
is there a PP that I'm missing?

I'm in. I heard something amusing once for the "Trees of Blood" how
    about "chasing meatballs"?

  6. Yes, its for this year. It's on the afternoon on the last day - as you
know, by that time people are starting to leave to catch flights so I don't
think it will be very well attended. Also, the title is pretty unremarkable
so its easy to miss. But I still want to do as good a job as I can.

  7. Asking area peeps to come out BEFORE SolidWorks World for a local preview of
the session - I'm thinking it might help out folks who can't make it to
Orlando at all, or who are going to World but want to see one of the
competing sessions in the same time slot (1:30-3:00 on Wednesday)
    http://www.solidworks.com/pages/swworld05/agenda.html
By the way, I can't remember a SolidWorks World that had more good-looking
sessions. Just in that same Wednesday afternoon slot, I'm REALLY intrigued
by 'low carb part-modeling', and I can personally confirm that Vince Adams
'analysis best practices' is a can't miss (not an exageration) for anyone
who does analysis or reviews analysis done by others. This really sucks,
because I know that there are things in 'trees of blood' that will save days
and days of time for the avarage user over the course of a year.

If you will be in Orlando there is no registration required for my session -
    its open

  8. It doesn't cost anything. I am pretty sure it is open to any users, but you
might want to check if they ask who your VAR is during registration. If you
are a CATI customer, I know it is free and open.

Ed, we met in Phoenix for COFES and I will be attending SWW for the first
time this year. I'll definitely be catching your class.

  11. Ok, so now what do I do??? I had planned on going to the one "Looking at
the Model Through API Eyes." It's an advanced class on the structure of the
model from the API perspective. Hmm, I'll have to think about that
    one..........

WTF, Ed? I showed up and the place was dark. Not even a note on the
door. No notice from you on the NG. No cancellation email. Nothing
on the CATI site. Other folks showed up, too.
    Very putz-like.
    Most flame-worthy.

I didn't get there until after 6. A friend of mine showed up then,
too,and said she had been by earlier.

Where did you drive in from?

I double-checked emails and CATI's website in case it was at some
    alternate location. No dice.

I'm working on an API program for Ed. I was going to show him the
    working model.

  14. Kman-
I am sooo sorry that you drove all of that way, especially in that lousy
weather, only to find an empty lobby.
But I WAS there and the presentation went on as scheduled. CATI messed up
by not having signs in the lobby - it never occurred to me that late
arrivals would have no way to find the office (it was only my second time to
    that office).
I am going to call CATI and yell at them right now... I want to offer my
personal apology to you anyway, for what it is worth...if I couldn't make it
I would have announced to the newsgroup. If it is any consolation, I drove
4.5 hours (total) and only got to present to three guys, so I was unhappy
    too.

I figured you weren't the source of the f***-up, but only another
misfortunate victim. I meant to imply putziness and flameworthiness
toward CATI. Too bad none of them post here.

They apologized and said they have sent free training certificates to
those who called to complain (3, so far). Hope someone is there to let
me in when I show up for class.

When I show up for similar sessions at other VAR's, the doors are open,
the lights are on, and the receptionist is there to courteously assist
all who may need assistance until the very end.

    BTW--
f***-up #2 on their part if I wasn't on the list. I registered and
    even received multiple confirmations.
