I have run across some old post from the bentley team suggesting
turning off level2 oplocks when running a Novell server. We are also
running a non-windows server and would like to know if there are still
any suggestions for file locking needs with V8?

    Hi Ryan,
If you are a select customer then you can upgrade to SELECT edition of
    Microstation.
In this version you can set the configuration variable which will
enable the File>Protect menu option. Using this menu option, you can
    protect your file.
    I think V8 also support File>Protect.

I am doing consulting work for a client that is a SELECT customer using
Microstation J and V8. Does this setting 'File>Protect' relieve
problems with oplocks? Should we approach the client machines rather
    than the server?
    Thank you for the response,
    Ryan
