Measure command

    I work for a surveying company and over the past few years I have been
    messing about with the idea of making a program to put symbols between to
    splined polylines.

    is there a command were i can measure along a line at intervals and then do
    something.

    IE every meter along the first line construct a point perpendicular to the
    second
    Draw a line (do Something) from the first line per to the second.

    The measure command is no use.
