Meaning of forward slash

    Can anyones help me to explain meaning of "forward slash",if it put
    1.(defun c:arleader (/ sp ang arrang leng ep) ..... put at earlier of local
    variable
    2.(defun registry-tree-dump (rkey indent / vs ks) ......put at mid of local
    variable

    The symbols before the / are not local variables; they are used to designate
    arguments that the function expects to be passed by a calling routine. Those
    after the / are local variables.
