mates

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Bill Chernoff, Dec 16, 2005.

  1. I made up some crude models of few machine tools, and my shop space. I
would like to be able to make the bottom of each tool flat on the floor, and
then slide and rotate them around the floor in different arrangements, to
see how I'd like to position them in the real shop. I used a coincident
mate, and, then tried a distance mate, and neither one allows me to rotate
the tools as I push them around the floor.I have to suppress the mate, push
and rotate everything around, and then un-suppress the mate. This seems
like such a simple problem, that I must be doing something wrong. Any
    ideas, please?

Using a single coincident mate as you described should allow this,
however you'll have to select the "Rotate Component" tool to do so,
otherwise it only moves in 2 directions if you just click a face or
edge and drag it. Also, after choosing the "Rotate Component" command,
you can select Rotate, "About Entity" instead of the default "Free
Drag" and then choose a vertical edge to rotate about.

    Hope this helps,

tested here works fine with only one coincident mate

left mouse + drag = move
right mouse + drag = rotate

    Hope that helps

  4. Thanks for the replies, guys. Rotate about entity works for me.

RM + drag does not rotate for me. is there a set up page for the mouse?

doesn't matter, the first way works for me.

    Thanks again.
