Mates Disabled - Why?

    Occasionally when I'm working in an assembly the mate "paperclip" button
    gets disabled (greyed). I don't know what I did to cause this or how to
    re-enable it.

    Can anyone tell me how to re-enble mating?

    You also can't do mates if working in an assy in an exploded mode. Collapse
    it to make it available.
