Manipulating XREFS

We do not use Autocad, but want AutoCAD users in our team to perform a
very specific function using XREFS. Any help would be appreciated

I want a user to create a new file, XREF my file into it, copy either
some or all of the contents of that file through into their file BUT
still have the original xref attached.

I do not want them to have to re-attach the file and it must be easy to
copy it into the same location as the original.

The reason for this is that we are delivering Architectural backgrounds
to all consultants and I want them to create their own "versions" of my
information. This they they xref into their drawings.

I then send them new Architecturals- they have to update their
drawings, and, in doing so, should be able to discern the differences.

This is very very easy to do in the program I use.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Sounds more difficult to explain than to do. If I'm getting it right,
multiple xrefs or a combination of xrefs and blocks to be exploded would do
the trick. I'm probably not getting it.

Your AutoCAD users should be able to insert your drawing as a block,
rename it (maybe with the date?), then xref in the same drawing.

Then you have a referenced copy and a local copy.

    OK try this one

I create Architectural background, xref this into a file called
Interiors (but the Interiors file actually remains empty)

I send two files to you, Architectural and Interiors
I want you to open Interiors and copy/extract/bind- (sort of) ony the
information you require- you may have to copy everything in and then
delete what you do not want.

You then Xref "Interiors" into your drawing called "Furniture" and draw
    your furniture.

Now two weeks later I send you a new "Architectural" but you don't know
what the difference is because I am crap and have not clouded
    everything that has altered.

You open up "Interiors" and turn on (I think it is reload) my
Architectuarls but, because you overwrote the old with the new you get
the new Architecturals . You turn then grey, use your bring to
frony/send to back command and you can see the difference.

My problem is that the people I need to understand XREFS dont. With our
package we can xref in anything we like and copy individual parts of it
    oto our file.

The reverse of this is that I receive a structural drawing, XREF it
into my version of the Structural drawing (I may need to rotate and/or
scale it at the same time) and only copy through, say, the columns.
They have the correct weight and layer number and I then use this in my
final "Plots" If something chages I can tell to the millimeter.

    Cheers for the reply
