The new long path names in R2005 is a real pain! If you need to go to the
plotter to move something up in the queue all you see is the beginning of
    the paths - USELESS!!!

If it wasn't broke, why did Autodesk "fix" this???

    John,

Yes I agree, you cannot see your file on the plotters queue screen, but it's an OS thing not Autodesk! Correct me if I'm wrong!

No - it's an Autodesk thing, because it doesn't work this way on our earlier
still installed versions, which show the filenames only, still using the
    same Windows printer drivers.

  5. I understand that this was done for users who want to see the full path of
spooled jobs in the printing queue (but can't remember seeing a request for
this...). The technical explanation is that AutoCAD 2005 passes the full
path to the plotter driver which uses it for both the name that is written
in the header of the plot file (what you see on the plotter's display) and
the name that appears in the printing queue. I have heard that it should be
solved with a new HP driver - but no idea when that will be available. The
latest version of my GoPlot plot tool (http://members.lycos.nl/goplot)
offers options to correct this; but to use it you'll have to plot your dwgs
to file and then spool them with GoPlot.

So there is no way around this problem other than using a 3rd party software to plot with?

    Sure:
make your path names shorter: place everything on your C:\ drive root and problem solved....
