LMTOOLS question

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Michael Veilleux, Jan 8, 2004.

  1. I installed the Network license manager onto our server, but I did this from my computer (didn't think it mattered).

Now when I open the LMTOOLS, in the system settings tab, it displays the following information:

    Computer/Host Name: DRAFTING1
    USername: VEILLEUX

THAT IS THE INFORMATION FOR MY COMPUTER...not the server.....is this correct? My would my computer be the host??

In addition, what do I have to configure in the LMTOOLS before I deploy an install??

thanks for any help.....my dealer has not returned my calls...

  2. When you say you installed it on the server, how did you do this? If you
just put the path on a mapped drive, then it didn't really install on the
server, it just put files there. If you did it via a Terminal connection,
then you're seeing some weird results. I have the best luck by doing these
functions using a terminal service connection to the server itself, or just
sitting in the network room to handle it since you'll have to swap out CDs.

  3. I have uninstalled it...what do you mean "swap out CDs"?

Should I just put the acad 2004 CD into the server's drive and install the network license manager from there?

  4. OK..I installed the license manager from the server....all seems ok with the install.

I notice that the previous license manager is still on the server (which is expected since we are still using the software).

    My question is this:

Do I need new authorization codes for all of my upgraded software??
If I do, do I simply substitute the new auth codes in place of the old ones on the server?

The new license manager was installed in a new directory.
The old auth codes are in a file called lbglic.lic in the FleLM/License directory.

  5. OK...I am making headway.....new question..

    in LMTOOLS
    Service/license file

    do I chose:
    a. Configuration using license file
    b. Configuration using services - FLEXlm service 1

For ACAD 2002, I had "b" selected. However the email I just received from AutoDesk tells me to place the .LIC file in the license folder off of AutoDesk License Manager folder.

Yes, do it Configuration using services - FLEXlm service 1 (or you can name it something else if you want, but the default should work fine)...then you set up the service to refer to that license file you placed in the License folder.

  7. Jenna,

thanks....so how do I set up the service to recognize the license file in the AutoDesk License Manager/license folder if I select Configuration using services - FLEXlm service 1??

Where are you running LMTOOLS from? If you are running it from your desktop and not on the server, it will pick up your machine as the server and not the actual server.

I've had many problems with trying to remotely run license servers and found that most things can be done from a DOS session but stuff like starting the server and getting the hostid will not work remotely. These things appear to be only possible from the actual hosting server. Bit of a problem for me to manage 15 nationwide servers because of this :(
