linux display of a remote cadence session - slow cursor tracking

I'm running RH7.2. When I run Cadence IC50 on the linux box natively
    with
24bit color, I get good cursor tracking response. When I run IC50 on
an AIX box and display it to the linux box with 24bit color, I get
terribly slow cursor tracking. If I run 8-bit color on the linux box,
then I get OK cursor tracking when displaying a session running on the
AIX box, but the 8-bit X session is
quite unstable - within an hour or so the X-session freezes and I have
to power off the linux box to recover.

It seems it must be some interaction between the Cadence on AIX and
    the XFree86
server, but I don't know what. Any ideas?

BTW, the AIX version is 5.0.32.500.4.

    Thanks.
