Linking to properties of assembly

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Mickey Reilley, Jan 17, 2005.

  1. How can I add a linked note that references the sub-assy instead of the
component? For example, I'm adding a note in an assembly. This assembly
has several parts and sub-assys. I want to show the description of a
sub-assy with a note but since I have to click on the sub-assy (and
therefore a specific component within that sub-assy) my note always links to
    the component.

I'm running an older version but I don't think this property linking has
changed. Even if it has, how do you do it in 2005?

in short You can't do it.

I run into the same problem. I was creating a parts manual and wanted to
extract description and part number from different levels of subs. I ended
up making a custom ballooning macro that allows you to increment up and down
the assembly levels to get the right description and partnumber. Then you
could export an excel spread sheet. I didn't ever have it add the spread
sheet to the drawing though and it was tailored to what I needed. It was
quite a bit of work to get it going but it suits me the code is a bit dirty
    though.
