Line jaggies

I've noticed this problem lately - maybe it was always there and I just
didn't think about it. I've noticed that diagonal lines on my plots are
stair-stepped or jaggie (aliased). I'm printing to an Epson 1280 and now
an Epson 7600, from LD3, using the sytem driver for each Epson. Even
using the highest printing resolutions (2880) and paper settings, lines
are still stair-stepped. Is this true of any inkjet printer (as opposed
to pen plotters where a diagonal line is a true straight line created by
the physical pen), or is this a printing language issue - as in
    postscript / HPGL-2 / Epson ESC...?

    Any help?
