We run AutoCAD 2004 here with 4 user network license. We have 2 user for some reason that whenever they close out of AutoCAD it will not release their licenses. They have the program closed, but if you look on the license manager on the server it shows them as still having a license in use. The only way to release them is to clear all the licenses on the server. Also, they are not using the license borrowing utility, so that is not the issue. They just open and close the program and the license won't release. Has anyone ever seen this issue. Please Help!!

    Thanks,

    Hi Wes,

I have seen two causes for this behavior. One is that the person at the
desktop has borrowed the license but did not know it. You can determine
this by running lmutil lmstat -a on the license server and looking for the
user in question. If the line listing that user includes the word "linger"
then the license is borrowed. The other cause is system instability. When
exiting AutoCAD the process ends ungracefully and thus the release license
process does not take place. This can also occur if a person forces AutoCAD
to end using task manager. You can set a timeout value in the options file
which will cause the license to be reclaimed due to inactivity after the
time period you specify to help with this situation. I recommend you take a
close look at the health of the two systems that hold the licenses.
