I have set up a new license server, to replace a machine that is about to be retired. In my previous office, I had set up two separate license servers - a similar issue, the first one was fine, but the machine had a lot of other things to do, so I set up a new server on another machine that was not so loaded up. Anyway, in that office, I simply stopped the old server, started the new one, and then replaced the licpath.lic file on everyones machine. What was cool about that setup was that the licpath.lic file listed the new server, and the old one, and if I had to take the server down for a while (I never actually did, except to test this), I could simply start teh service again on the old machine. Then, when clients booted, they would ask the newer server for a license, and when it didn't respond, they would ask teh old server, and it would hand out a license - so it all worked to give me a backup license server. Pretty cool, right? So that is what I want to do here. But it doesn't seem to work - I can replace the licpath.lic file, but if the server listed first does not respond, AutoCAD does not look for the second one - it asks me to specify a license server. So, what am I missing? Is there more to setting up this secondary path than just listing two server names in the licpath.lic file?

Please indicate which version of AutoCAD you're using. 2002 and 2004 use
FLEXlm; 2000i and earlier used Elan, that works differently.

Right now, ADT3.3 (acad2002). The new license server is the upgraded flexLM that ships with ADT/ACAD2004 - the old one is the older flexLM.
