    We have Network License for 60 users and have since requested a network license file for 60 users. We have found since using a license server that wecan eliminate at least 10 licenses. Sorry Autodesk but using a license manager's allows us to be more efficient about using AutoCAD. The question is if and when we eliminate these 10 license’s can I just edit the network license file ( LICPATH.LIC) and change it from permanent 60 to permanent 50? Or do I have to request a new network license file from Autodesk?If I do need to request a new network license file can I just replace it without affecting all my users?

    One other question I have is changing from a single server to a distributedserver. Can this be done if I have License Manager up and running and used by all my users, or is it recommended that we make all these decisions during image creation? Thanks for any input on these questions.

  2. Hi,

    You need to request a new license file. You cannot edit the one you got.

    You can quite easily replace it. There is a reread function that might work
    if you have the latest verson of FLEXlm. But I have got some issues with
    that. What you can do at lunch time or even at any time is to have the new
    license file prepared and then just stop the service, change license file
    and start the service. To my experience this doesn't affect users that runs
    if you do it quite quick. Best is to inform that users that you will restart
    the license server at lunch time...

    To swith to distributed server can be done without reinstalling the clients.

    You have to change this in the registry for all users.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
    Manager\Environment\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE
    @server1;@server2

    The activation of the distributed servers can be done as when switching
    license file.

    PS. With JTB FlexReport you might even prove that you need less licenses.
