License Manager Span Sub-Net

    We are running AutoCAD in a University environment. The current configuration in our student-access labs is as follows:

    - High-end Dell workstations running Windows NT 4.0 SP6a;
    - Network install of AutoCAD 2000. The network drive with the AutoCAD 2000 installation is a Windows share drive that resides on a UNIX based machine running Samba.
    - Dedicated Windows NT 4.0 Server machine running ADLM (AutoDesk License Manager.

    We are planning on switching the operating system for the workstations from NT 4.0 to XP Professional. Also, we are planning on upgrading AutoCAD from 2000 to 2002. The network installed AutoCAD 2002 will reside on a Windows share that is a UNIX machine running Samba.

    My question is:

    Can we use a FlexLM license manager running on a server located on a different sub-net from the one to which the workstations are connected? In other words, can the license span multiple sub-nets? Please note that in the present configuration both the license manager server and the workstations are on the same sub-net, and it appears that the AutoCAD 2000 ADLM does *not* allow that.

    Many thanks,
    DVJ

    We have multiple subnets on our LAN. I'm not exactly sure how it's set up,
    but for some reason, all of our users must have their firewall client
    enabled or they can't get a license. They can ping the server just fine,
    but no proxy client = no license. This may be specific to the way our
    network is configured, however.
