Is it possible to use the plot to .JPG plotter to create a sharp (hi-res)
    image of a drawing?
All text needs to be readable, lines/arcs crisp and sharp looking.

I have not had any luck so far, images that were created this way look like
smudged kids work. Not acceptable to me or the client.

Using LDD4, on an XP machine.
No third party software available or to be bought.

    Thanks Dean,

I would have to agree .JPG is not ideal, but the client is alway "right".
They only want a pretty picture, and requested .JPG.
File size is apparently no problem for them, me now, that is another story,
    hard drives
just dont stay big enough for long and to have to email big files, ugh!

Having dug father into this, I found the dpi slider. It wont move off of
    100 dpi.
I havent found out why yet.

You might suggest to your client that PDF is a more appropriate "universal"
    format for AutoCAD drawings.

The JPEG driver is not "dimensional" and the dpi setting is not meaningful.
But you can easily plot high quality raster friles from AutoCAD. Just create
a custom "paper" size large enough for your desred quality and plot to it.
This works for any of the raster file formats.

So would that be for a 24X36 inch "print" at 300 dpi
    24 X 300 = 7200
    36 X 300 = 10800
    7200 X 10800 pixels?

Good thing I don't do this all the time. What a long time to plot, 3 cups
    of coffee :)

Thanks for the help, these newgroups are great!

Nope, don't have a graphics program, what is a good (free or sharable) one?
From what I have heard in office,
civil designers don't need one, but I can download one if it is free.

  7. Rob,

Dean is right, I don't know why anyone would want to use a jpg for an
AutoCAD drawing short of a thumbnail for a webpage. Almost all graphics
programs import a PDF and it's vector based so the quality is much higher.
The customer isn't always right. Sometimes it's up to you to suggest a
better alternative that's going to save both of you time. Or use a DWF
which they can also view and print for free on their end.

Well there are some crazy people.

I wrote a script to generate AutoCAD linework as PNG files for use as
Overlays in a Online Mapping application

    See here:

    http://pwultra5.ci.stpaul.mn.us/cgi-bin/jsk.pl

All of the Aerial Photo's and the PROPERTY layer/theme were generated
from AutoCAD in multiple tiles layers with different resolutions.

This is still in it's infancy, we still need to add some styling to the
pages, and fix a couple of functionality items.

Antoher reason I'm commenting though, is that I have a problem with one
of the datasets, the "Horizons" theme has some white banding in the
upper levels of resolution that I can't seem to get rid of with my JPG
    writer script.

Any ideas on how to fix it?
